Auterion sets sights on growth in the Greater Zurich Area
Zurich – Three quarters of all drones worldwide fly with Auterion software. Although the startup has contacts in Silicon Valley, it has set its sights on growing at its location in the Greater Zurich Area where engineers are more affordable and cooperation with China is easier to pursue from neutral Switzerland, says the founders.
ETH reports record number of spinoffs
Zurich – A record-breaking 27 companies were founded as spinoffs from the Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich (ETH) in 2018. Most of the companies are in ICT and medicine, while others are working with artificial intelligence.
Greater Zurich Area excels with new companies
Schlieren ZH – Almost as many companies were founded in Switzerland in 2018 as in the record-breaking year of 2017, according to a new report. Over the last four years, the cantons of Zug and Glarus have recorded the biggest percentage growth rate, while the canton of Zurich has registered the highest absolute growth.
Google partners with Acronis on cyber security
Schaffhausen – Google is placing its trust in the expertise of software company Acronis from the Greater Zurich Area for its VirusTotal software. The IT giant is integrating a machine learning-based malware detection engine developed by Acronis in its antivirus solution.
Climeworks provides raw material for clean kerosene
Karlsruhe/Zürich – The Karlsruhe Institute of Technology is working together with its spin-off Ineratec to make clean kerosene. Zurich technology company Climeworks is able to capture carbon dioxide directly from the air as a raw material for this process.
ANYmal explores Zurich’s sewerage system
Zurich – The robot ANYmal developed at the ETH can see and hear, and even open doors. In a research mission, ANYmal has now explored the drains and tunnels below Zurich. It is hoped that the robot will be able to carry out dangerous work down there autonomously in future.
Cloud solution planned for financial market
Zurich – Swiss stock exchange SIX is joining forces with the technology company HIAG Data. Together, they intend to provide secure cloud services for the Swiss financial market, strengthening it further as a result.
