Zurich - In its latest funding round, 9T Labs has successfully raised USD 17 million. Along the investors were companies from Belgium, Switzerland and the USA. They were impressed by the additive fusion solution of 9T Labs for the manufacture of carbon composite materials.
VirtaMed developing simulator training for surgery robots
Schlieren - VirtaMed from the Greater Zurich Area has agreed a partnership with Memic, a medtech firm that specializes in surgery robots. Hominis Surgical System is the first surgical robot with humanoid-shaped arms.
ABB enabling high-quality imaging in outer space
Zurich/Vancouver - ABB is to supply imaging systems valued at more than 30 million US dollars to the Canadian data and analytics company EarthDaily Analytics. This should increase the quality of images of our planet captured by satellites. An analytics system on the basis of Artificial Intelligence will search through the images captured for signs of change in the Earth’s environment and ecosystems.
Uber co-founder invests in Certifaction
Zurich/San Francisco - The software firm Certifaction has raised gross proceeds in the amount of 5 million euros following a successful financing round. The lead investor here was the Californian venture capital firm Expa, which was founded by Uber co-founder Garrett Camp.

Europe’s largest capsule hotel opens at Zurich Airport
Kloten/Lucerne - The Lucerne-based firm capsule hotel has opened Europe’s largest capsule hotel with 144 sleeping pods at Zurich Airport. Swiss nature photographer Fabio Zingg was entrusted with the interior design. The hotel also offers co-working spaces and a small wellness area.
Twin study shows origin of multiple sclerosis
Zurich - Researchers at universities in Zurich and Munich have discovered the environmental influences involved in the development of multiple sclerosis. They found changes to certain cells in pairs of genetically identical twins where one twin has multiple sclerosis and the other does not.
Typewise beats Apple and Google
Schlieren - Typewise from the Greater Zurich Area has registered a patent for its autocorrect program and text prediction in the USA. In tests, it has corrected a higher percentage of errors than keyboards from Apple and Google. Furthermore, its text prediction saves more character input.
