Schlieren - Typewise from the Greater Zurich Area has registered a patent for its autocorrect program and text prediction in the USA. In tests, it has corrected a higher percentage of errors than keyboards from Apple and Google. Furthermore, its text prediction saves more character input.

According to information from Typewise, it has developed autocorrect and text prediction technology that is better than that of the two technology giants Apple and Google. It is based on artificial intelligence. The company based in the Greater Zurich Area developed this in collaboration with AI specialists at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich. A patent for the program is now being registered in the USA.

Typewise Co-Founder and CEO David Eberle states in a company blog post: “We are generally fans of Apple but neither they nor Google have nailed autocorrect or text prediction. […] Our work demonstrates how it is possible for smaller companies to beat Big Tech when focus and execution are done well.” The company’s smartphone keyboard is reported to have corrected 72.38 percent of errors. This figure was 70.64 for Google and 67.59 percent for Apple. The Typewise keyboard saves 65 percent of character input, while Google and Apple achieve 48 and 50 percent, respectively.

Typing data from the cell phone keyboard with a honeycomb layout or the beta version of a browser-based Typewise application programming interface (API) is not transferred to the cloud. Instead, David Eberle comments that the technology takes place on the device. He adds: “In addition, we’re continually improving our AI so expect to see the gap between Typewise and others’ offerings grow even greater over the next 18 months.”

Typewise won the CES Innovation Award at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas, one of the world’s largest trade fairs for entertainment electronics, in both 2021 and 2022. Now, the company plans to expand “into the lucrative B2B arena” with its desktop solution. This writing tool enables companies to write emails, documents and customer support chats up to three times faster.
